Blast from the Past

Introduction: Welcome to “Blast from the Past” part one. For some of the older players, like me, this brings back old memories. For newer players, well, it’s just proof that I haven’t gotten this far by hitting copy, paste, and print for as long I have played. This first part has many old decklists which range from some of my very first decks when I was a beginner to ones I made three years ago in roughly chronological order. You will also notice that there is a paragraph for many of the decks explaining its “function”. I just thought this would be something fun to post, so enjoy!

Function of Blue Counterspell Deck

In the beginning of the duel this deck is designed to just wait for the opponent to cast a spell and counter it unless it is a summon or artifact spell that you can gain control of. Normally you should only cast creatures when there is enough mana left for a counterspell. Dream Cache and Brainstorm help speed up this deck. You deal damage by attacking with a flying or unblockable creature or by poking at your opponent with prodigal sorcerers and Rootwater hunters. Twiddle lets you double the amount of damage inflicted by the sorcerers and hunters or to let one of your attackers block.

Function of Black/Red Creature/Direct Damage Deck

In the beginning, depending on your hand you should be able to do at least one of the following: cast direct damage spell, cast smaller creature such as Royal Assassin, Drudge Skeletons, or Black knight, cast dark ritual to put out a larger creature such as Sengir Vampire, or cast Demonic tutor. Because of all of these possibilities the first few turns are very important. This deck’s best hands are made up of dark rituals, large creatures, and demonic tutors. A bad hand can be fatal in this deck. In the case of not having these cards there is direct damage to destroy creatures or damage your opponent. Later in the game a large drain life (with dark ritual/s if possible) helps boost up your life total to let you recover and deal a large amount of damage to your opponent possibly delivering the final blow.

Function of Green Speed Deck

In the beginning this deck is designed to have many many extra land Producing effects and some small creatures. The most helpful of these creatures are the rootwalla and the Killer Bees because they both can pump up. With the help of Giant Growths, Briar Shields, and Overruns the small creatures become a lot larger. With the extra mana you can dump it into Killer Bees and Rootwallas, create a big stream of life or Natural Spring, Or put it into a huge Krakilin. With the help of the gain life effects in this deck and the speed this deck will have a 30 to 0 victory in about seven turns if the opponent can’t cast anything to stop it.

Function of Aluren/Counterspell Sliver Deck

What this deck does is prevents any spells that could interfere with the mass production using aluren to have an army of slivers. The counterspells also slow the game enough to get the Alurens and at least most of the slivers in the deck into play. You don’t have to play the slivers fast to overwhelm your opponent because of the counterspells. This makes the deck very versatile.

Function of Living lands Combo Deck

At first this Deck Generates Small Fast green Creatures. Then Cards such as Sylvan Library enable you to get to the combo faster. One combo is having a few creatures out Ashnod’s altar out and Living lands out to put into a big fireball. Another combo is putting any number of overgrowth’s and/or Wild growths on one land with earthcraft and Living lands in play taping and untaping that land over and over to dump into a fire ball or Killer Bees. There are no mountains in this Deck because of the Skyshroud Elves and the Birds of Paradise. Other versions of this deck may also be made using land destruction, hand destruction, or counterspells.

Function of Vise Age Deck

With this Deck Speed is everything with speedy large creatures, Direct Damage, and very importantly, Black vises. A first turn Black Vise is almost a guaranteed win. After that, it’s just a matter of using direct damage, putting out Ernham Djinns, and finally playing stormbind to drop you hand and Destroy your opponent.

Function of Suicide Necro

This deck goes for quick and continuous beat down with creatures. On the first turn you should cast a Dark ritual, a blood pet, or carnophage followed by one of the 2 casting cost creatures. On a good draw you should be able to cast a dark ritual a carnophage (or blood pet) and a 2 casting cost creature followed by another 2 casting cost creature or a bad moon within 2 turns dealing 6 damage.

Function of Tradewind/Propaganda

This control deck is four colors using the best of those colors. Counterspells, Wall of Blossoms, and Wall of roots are your protection from an early threat. After that you cast some of the 3 casting cost creatures and/or a Propaganda. In the midgame you should be able to get the TradewindRider/Propaganda/ Winter Orb combo out. The impulses should be used to find the pieces. Once you have all of there roads to victory eliminated, you can attack with your own creatures. Once this lock is set up there is very little chance for any comeback.
